Biography


Dr Rama Vancheeswaran is a Consultant Chest and General Physician at West Herts NHS Trust. She is also the Respiratory Lead at the Trust and Director of Research. She is a Honorary Physician at the Royal Brompton. She moved from the Royal Free to expand her interests into providing services for Cancer and optimising front end delivery of Emergency Medical Services. At the Royal Free, Barnet and Chase Farm, she led and set up ILD, COPD, Sleep and a 7 day medical model with Consultant and Specialist delivered services.

Her interests are in optimising the local provision of all respiratory and medical services in a more effective, productive and safe way. Rama is a British Lung Foundation Ambassador aiming to represent the patients view and a prior member of the BTS COPD Specialist Advisory Group. Her previous posts at Barnet were Clinical Director, Associate Medical Director for both Barnet and Chase Farm Trust and Barnet Community Services. Rama qualified in Nigeria and the Royal Free in Medicine and then trained at the Royal Brompton, Hammersmith and St Marys. Her Masters and PhD were in the Immunopathogenesis of Scleroderma and Non Specific Interstitial Pneumonitis. She has published widely with 90 papers in many subjects particularly in COVID-19, Interstitial Lung Disease, COPD and optimising health care delivery.
