Clinical lead for sexual and reproductive health, NHS Lothian & NHS Borders
Dr Dan Clutterbuck is Clinical lead for sexual and reproductive health, NHS Lothian & NHS Borders and Clinical lead for HIV at the Chalmers Centre, Edinburgh where he has over 17 years developed care pathways, protocols and teaching packages to support GPs and other clinicians in the delivery of sexual health care. He maintains a clinical workload in all aspects of sexual health in men and women, a large cohort of HIV patients and research involvement in Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and STI treatment trials.
He has a particular interest in HIV prevention and the integration of services for MSM (men-who-have-sex-with-men) into generic sexual health services. He was lead author of the UK National Guideline on Safer Sex Advice and of the 2016 UK National Guideline on the Sexual Health care of Men-who-have-sex-with-men (MSM) as well as contributing to national guidelines, patient information and standards relating to PrEP and HIV care. His main educational objective to improve skills in sexual history taking and the diagnosis of HIV, both through teaching nursing and medical clinicians and contributing to textbooks at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
