Consultant in clinical biochemistry & metabolic medicine
Dr Luvai is a consultant at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (NuTH) based at the Freeman Hospital. He provides expert support for the diagnosis and management of biochemical clinical problems, advises on appropriate investigations on an individual patient basis and the repertoire provided by the Clinical Biochemistry Department. He is the clinical lead for the Lipid and Metabolic Clinic at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and a member of the regional Familial Hypercholesterolaemia Steering Group.
He is the Deputy Chair of the Lipid Specialists Advisory Group within the Northern England Strategic Clinical Networks. The group aims to promote evidence based practice in the management of lipid disorders, including FH, raise the profile of Lipid Specialist Services, inform commissioners and influence investment decisions. He has an interest in reference intervals, performance of clinical decision limits and the impact of biological variation on disease monitoring.
