Chair of Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN)
Angela Timoney is the current Chair of SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network). SIGN aims to improve the quality of health care for patients in Scotland by reducing variation in practice and outcome, through the development and dissemination of national clinical guidelines containing recommendations for effective practice based on current evidence. She is currently Director of Pharmacy for NHS Lothian and has been in this post since 2013. Prior to that she was Director of Pharmacy for NHS Tayside (2007-2013). She is also a past Chair of the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) (2011-14) the advisory body to NHS Scotland on the cost-effectiveness of new medicines. She has been involved in translating evidence into practice for most of her professional career, and is particularly interested in how to ensure that the complex assessments and judgements are understood and trusted by all stakeholders.
In 2012 Angela was appointed Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences. From 2004 to 2006 Angela was Chair of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in Scotland. She was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society in 2008, and an honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh in 2014.
